Dunn House
N. Queen Street
Dunn House dates to 1786 and is joined to its neighbor, the Bolton House. It had been completely gutted, with exterior walls repaired and some structural work completed by Preservation, Inc. (Dunn House is to the right in the photo below).
Past owners Richard and Joan McCown sold it to the Flanagans in 2003 after purchasing the property and beginning restoration in March, 1998. The quiet dignity of Dunn House was evident even in its dismantled state. The original staircase and beaded vertical partitions between the hall and two adjoining rooms were intact. Lovely dentil cornice and mantel in the living room and the chair rails, baseboards and cornices were present.
Dunn House and its beautiful rear garden have new owners. The furniture and decorations are primarily 18th century French, Louis XV and XVI. The 19th and 20th century paintings, 20th century etchings and lithographs, and other 19th century art collected by the owners during residencies abroad, all complement the Early American setting.
